Instruction for Authors

1. Article

Types of articles accepted on Sodality: Journal of Rural Sociology are articles based on the results of scientific research, such as surveys, case studies, experiments, archival analysis, and historical approaches. Sodality does not accept literature study articles. Sodality accepts articles that discuss rural sociology at local, national and international levels.

2. Components of Article

Author needs to provide several important components so that your article are understandable and searchable through the keywords:

  • Article title: contains maximum 14 words
  • Author's name and original institution. Provide author’s full name and the institution. The name of the institution is not abbreviated, accompanied by the address of the institution, city, postal code, country. Authors of correspondence are marked with an asterisk (in superscript), whereas to indicate the institution of origin, use numbers (in superscript). The email address is the email address of the author of the correspondence.
  • Keywords, consisting of 3-5 words
  • Abstracts have to be written in two languages, Indonesian and English. Consist of less than 200 words. The abstract must include a brief introduction, research objectives / research questions, methods, results, and conclusions.
  • Article writing format must follow the provided template.
  • Article length: a minimum of 10 pages and a maximum of 15 pages.
  • Articles must include: introduction, methods, results and discussion, conclusions, and bibliography.
  • The introduction must include the problem / research question, research purposes, the state of the art, the hypothesis, the approach to problem solving and the expected results. The grand theory or middle range theory of sociology as a knife of analysis needs to be stated explicitly as the theoretical epistemological position of the author.
  • The method explains in detail both the research paradigm adopted and the field approach method.
  • Results and discussion: includes research findings and discussions which contain comparison with other related research. The results and discussion must be supported by figures or tables.
  • Conclusion: must explain novelty or conceptualization of ideas. Not in bullet points. Suggestions and recommendations can be written in the conclusions section.
  • Acknowledgments can be added if needed.
  • Pictures: pictures are directly inserted into writing and must be referred to in writing. Provide numbering of labels and image information in order. Images must be legible and not broken when enlarged.
  • Tables: Tables must be entered as soon as they are mentioned in writing. Provide labeling and table information in order. The size of the font in the table is 9 pt.
  • Citation of literature and bibliography: citation style and bibliography have to use Mendeley with American Sociological Association style. Authors are not allowed to quote from Wikipedia, blogspot, or college assignments. Authors must cite a minimum of 25 references with the composition:
    • > = 80% of primary references (books and journals)
    • > = 80% of references must be in the last 10 years, and
    • must cite 1 article from Sodality.
  • Abbreviations / Terms / Symbols: The use of abbreviations is permitted, where abbreviations must be written in full at the beginning of inclusion. Foreign terms must be written in italics. Symbols must also be written clearly and can be distinguished.
  • Attachments are used if necessary to complete the text, such as questionnaires, legal rules, results of data analysis, maps, and others. Attachments are listed after References.

3. Article Acceptance and Publication 

  • The Editorial Board only accepts and considers articles that are not being considered by other journals. Manuscripts must be sent via an online submission to the website:
  • Articles that have been declared to have passed the initial assessment of eligibility will be sent to the Editorial Board who decide whether or not an article was accepted. Authors who pass the review process and are selected to be published will receive a Letter of Acceptance. Rejected authors will also receive a notification letter.

4. Review Process

The review process on sodality is carried out through three stages, namely:

  1. Editorial Board decision, where articles have a theme that fit Sodality’s focus and scope.
  2. Double blind peer review, where the author and reviewer are not named in the review process. Only the journal manager knows the information of the authors and reviewers, while Editorial Board only knows the information of reviewers.
  3. Turnitin is used as plagiarism checker software.
